The policy for girls driving their own cars is that the
passenger must have written permission of her parents to ride in the car
without an adult driver. If you do not want your daughter riding with a “girl-driver”,
please let your Mother Advisor know. She will then, confidentially, so as
not to cause your daughter any embarrassment, make various arrangements to
comply with your wish. When driving to meetings or events in town, an oral
agreement between parents is acceptable. If there is driving during an event,
follow the guidelines below.Printable Download
Grand Officers may not drive out-of-town by themselves. It is understood
that all girls, who are driving, are licensed drivers, and that insurance
is carried on the car. All members must have a
medical insurance form on file with the Mother Advisor. To further clarify
the driving policy, see these examples below.
If you are a Driver between the ages of 16-18
You must be licensed and insured.
You will only be able to drive to and from Rainbow functions in the local
geographic area.
If you have a passenger in your car under 18, you will need to have WRITTEN
permission from your parents and WRITTEN permission from the passenger’s
parent for EACH event. (There is not an open travel permission slip.)
You WILL NOT be able to drive to Rainbow functions outside of the
immediate area, even with written permission.
If you are a Driver over the age of 18
You must be licensed and insured.
You can drive to functions in the local area
without written permission.
You can transport passengers over the age of 18 without written permission
from their parents in the local area.
You can transport passengers under the age of 18 with WRITTEN permission
from THEIR parents only for EACH event in the immediate geographic area.
You can transport passengers outside of the immediate geographic area
with WRITTEN permission from YOUR parents and the parents of your passengers
for each event. (You may only
transport YOURSELF with WRITTEN permission from your parents. We trust
your driving, but there are many OTHER factors driving that road that even seasoned drivers are very cautious of.)
Passenger Etiquette
Occasionally the assembly will make road trips to a variety
of events in the state throughout the year. The events are other Official
Visits, Rainbow Camp, Receptions, or just for the fun of it. When traveling
in the car, it is expected that you will follow the directions given by the
driver. To ensure a pleasant trip follow these 10 simple rules:
Keep the noise level to a minimum, and please, no screaming.
Keep internal lights off so they do not cause a distraction for the
driver.
One person must stay awake with the driver at all times.
Clean up all messes in the car. It is a good idea to set up a plastic
bag to deposit your garbage in and empty it at each stop you make.
Drinks must be in “cap” style bottles. No chocolate or red liquids
in any of the cars. The stains they make will take you much longer
than an afternoon scrubbing your driver’s seats or car floors.
Keep the “crumbly” foods at home. Make sure it is OK with your driver
that you eat in the car. If you do eat, make sure ALL remnants
of that meal are removed from the car at the very next stop.
When stopping at rest stops and using the facilities, always go with
a partner. Make sure to take advantage of every stop so during the
long stretches of nothing you are riding comfortably.
Pack what you need. Keep in mid that the luggage of 3 or more people
has to fit in the trunk!
Be on time. Nothing starts a road trip
out on the wrong foot like a passenger who isn’t ready at the pick
up location on time.
The best rule is to treat the driver the way you
would want to be treated. If the driver asks you to do something –
do it. Don’t ask questions or argue. Be polite and respectful, no matter
how tired or uncomfortable you are.
At the end of the trip, remember to thank your driver and pay your share
of any gas money, if needed. Also plan to stay to clean up the car so it is
better than when you entered it. If your parents are waiting to pick you
up, please explain your responsibilities and let them know you will be ready
to go home when that task is finished.
Other Important Things to Know
Please do not cross in front of the Worthy Advisor’s station when the Bible
is open on the altar. (You’ll probably hear a lot of “gasps” if you do!) Not crossing the room in this manner is a demonstration of respect for the power in our Holy Book and the authority of the Presiding Officer.
Please do not cross your legs. Try to sit straight and have good posture!
Please try to square all corners when you are walking around the assembly
room. (It looks really cool when you do!)
